TOPIC 1: INTRODUCTION TO OPERATING SYSTEM

a. Do your know the meaning of Operating system?

~ is a software program that provides an interface between the user and the computer and manages thousand of application.

b. How does OS works?

~ Even thoug it is stored on disc , it needs to be loaded into memory  (RAM) once the computer is switched on and before any other program can be run.

c. Providing a user interface ?

~ users interact with application programs and computer hardware through a user interface - window like graphical

d. Running applications 

~load and run applications such as word processors and spreadsheet

e.Support for built-in utility programs

~ uses utility programs for maintenance and repairs . Help to identify problems , locate lost files , repair damaged files and backup data.

f. Control the computer hardware 

~OS located between programs and the BIOS. BIOS controls the hardware . All programs that need hardware rescources must go through OS.
